History of HPD
Honda Performance Development was founded in 1993 in California. Its first task was to develop engines for Honda's entry into the IndyCar Series. In 1995, Honda-powered cars won the IndyCar Manufacturer's Championship and the Indy 500, the first time a Honda engine had won the race.
From there, HPD expanded its racing programs to include sports cars, touring cars, and Formula One. In 2006, HPD became the exclusive engine supplier for the IndyCar Series, and Honda-powered cars won the Indy 500 for the second time in 2006.
In addition to its racing programs, HPD also offers performance parts and accessories for Honda and Acura vehicles. These parts are designed and tested to meet the same standards as the racing components used by HPD's professional teams.
